Ophelia - Magnificat  (Ophelia, 1979)

"There are many West-Indian artists struggling in Europe and the U.S.A." writes Mark Marie. "Not only because they are lacking in talent, but because they choose to express their lack of artistry in the wrong idiom". Ophelia has managed to avoid this vein by sticking to her roots on her debut album released by the Saultone label. And don't believe for one second that she's a newcomer to the music scene -- or to the stage, for that matter, having twice won the Domenica National Day Tune Award for her performance in the broadway revival of Magnificat, bringing fresh energy to Bernadette Peters' old role as the Red Light Lady of the night.
