Fernando Gelbard - Alevacolariea (Didi, 1974)

Synthesizers and Fender Rhodes were unusual in Buenos Aires in 1974, but Fernando Gelbard chose to forgo his acoustic instruments and become the first Argentinian musician to make a jazz record exclusively on the new electronic instruments. (MP3 removed at the request of Fernando Gelbard)

I searched far and wide but couldn't find any information in English about this band -- I'm not even sure whether they're called Nigetahitsuji or Nigeta Hitsuji. All I know for shimishuro is that they're led by a genius named Suguru Kishimoto, and I bought their cd "Tropical Gum" (March, 2008) on a whim and it turned out to be the best thing since pickled ginger. I suggest you make the short trip over to Kyoto following our gig at the Fukumama and pick up several copies from this lovely vendor. In the meantime here's a song to tide you over.

Please bear with us, it appears we have a mild case of the Willies.

Willie Colon and Hector Lavoe - La Banda
(Asalto Navideno Volume 2, 1973)

Ponytone will be playing a mambo/salsa set at the Fukumama club in Osaka on May 12th and all Ponytoners are invited. This barrio-stormer from Willie's second Xmas LP will most definitely get a rewind.

V'73 - Doldinger Theme (1975)

V'73 were a hungarian band consisting of Jozsef Safar, Istvan Lerch and Sandor Herpai. In the late seventies the latter two went on to form a better-known group called V'Moto Rock.

Warning - Cine Regard (1982)

Over the years I've developed a theory that I can get my mother to like absolutely any kind of music as long as it's French. So for kicks I've decided to test my theory and see just how far I can push it. My first experiment, to be presented on Mother's Day, will be a mix of french heavy metal from the 80s. In the meantime I'm kinda getting into it myself.

Bo Diddley - Go For Broke (Another Dimension, 1971)

Snagged this at a yard sale as part of a buy one get one free deal (the Troop Beverly Hills soundtrack cost me a quarter).

Francis Bebey - Agatha (Rire Africain, 1981)

To translate the french, Agatha is not Francis Bebey's lover. She's just a girl who claims that he is the one, but the kid is not his son.

Blind Willie McTell - Southern Can Is Mine

(Love Changing Blues, 1931)

There's no peace of mind for a blind man in love with a fast girl. "Now lookie here momma let me tell you this, If you wanna get crooked I'm gonna give you my fist, You might read from Revelation back to Genesis, If you get crooked your southern can belongs to me"

THE LULL

A lullaby for sleepyheaded children, restless night-trippers and my darling alleycat, slumbering beneath a veil of cherry blossom in the long grass.    (click to download)
